Hey Zoners!

Anyone out there with cables for your old braille N speak 2000.

I'm in need of some.

Thank you,
Traci

What kinds of cables do you need and what are you trying to connect? If it's something to the serial port, then of course, you'll need the special cable. But the parallel port is standard. So if you're trying to hook up a printer, you just need a regular parallel cable. I have two chargers for my Braille Lite 2000 but the battery refuses to charge. So I'm not sure if it's the adapters or the battery that's the problem.

Well, right now, I can't find my disk drive cord. Lol, it is really annoying me! Why in the world would I have unplugged it. It goes with nothing else!

Then I'm wanting the cord that goes from the braille n speak and has a 9-pin connector on the other side.

My goal hopefully, is to connect my bns to my laptop. Apparently, I can buy a serial to USB connector.

Thanks so much,
Traci

You'll need to use DOS to do it. Do you have PC Master or another such program or are you trying to use it as a synthesizer? If so, you'll need extra cables to connect it to the serial or parallel port on the pc, since the serial port on the BNS is different from the standard ports on most pcs. I don't remember if the synthesizer mode allows you to connect via parallel, but if so, that would be a much better idea. Also, if you could get something like Laplink to work, you could avoid the serial port and use the parallel. I'm not sure where my disk drive for the Braille Lite is at the moment so you've at least got one up on me.

Ok, my plan is over the weekend, I'm going to look for my disk drive cable. If that fails me,I can purchase a cable from Freedom Scientific. One that goes from my braille N speak, and has the 9-pin female serial on the other end. Then I'll need to buy the 9-pin male serial to USB.

The latter being a bit of a pricy idea, for saying that my braille N speak is dying.

I probably just need to replace the battery, but I'm not sure if it is worth it. I imagine the batteries are expensive.

Thanks for the exchange! Part of me will miss the bns, I've been using it off and on for nearly 20 years! It was a great product!

why not just save your files to disks, put the disks in the computer and save them there? Even if your computer doesn't have a floppy drive, they're not that expensive. Also, I highly doubt that any Blazie Engineering product will work with a usb connection.

You might want to check on EBay. Believe it or not, they sometimes have these products. So maybe, you can get another BNS or Braille Lite.
